Delaware solicits proposals for a visionary medical school partner to launch its first in-state four-year medical school under the federal Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), supported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Nearly $100 million in anticipated RHTP funding is available over five years, focusing on building a sustainable pipeline of locally trained primary care physicians and workforce in rural Sussex and Kent Counties. The initiative targets long-term health, workforce development, and improved rural access, requiring robust sustainability, compliance, and engagement of rural health facilities.
Eligible applicants include accredited four-year allopathic and osteopathic medical school partners with demonstrated experience in rural health workforce development. Both single institutions and branch campuses may apply. Preference given to applicants with capacity to meet Delaware workforce needs in primary care.
